1 FERGUSSON, John C., M.Inst.C.E. FERGUSSON'S SURVEYING CIRCLE and PERCENTAGE TABLES : a book for Engineers, Surveyors, Naval & Military Officers, and Travellers. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR.
London, published by the Author, John C. Fergusson, 1901, 1st Edition
Subtitled "A Solution to the Centesimal Division of the Circle", this book describes the purpose, theory and mode of operation of the intrument named in the title, which had uses in triangulation, rangefinding and levelling, and was based on the author's percentage unit of angular measurement rather than the traditional 360-degree circle. First Edition. Navy cloth with dark gilt titles and cover diagram, making a very handsome volume indeed. Fine condition with foxing to endpapers. 8.5" x 5.7", 84pp, Author's inscription on ffep "Mr. Thomas Canby, from the author, John C. Ferguson, 12/1/92". This date is a mystery: it was clearly written when the book was new, but could hardly have been written 9 years before publication! A rare book: we have been unable to find any other copies of this book, or anything by this author, on the Internet. Packed weight 400g.
