2 FORSTER, William J. (arranged & selected by); Joseph ADDISON; Hans ANDERSEN; John BRIGHT; BUNYAN; Dr T M COAN; DEFOE; DICKENS; Leigh HUNT; Washington IRVING; LONGFELLOW; James R LOWELL; J G LYONS etc. FAVOURITE READINGS selected by William J. FORSTER ... rare, selling in London.
Published by Robert CULLEY, London, undated, c.1910.
Hard cover, 12mo. Condition: G to VG, no d/j. Ink stain top edge of first few pages. Interesting poem written in a contemporary hand on the back endpaper and pastedown, attributed to "the Headmaster of Eton", although we are not told which headmaster. We are reliably informed that the author of the poem is probably the Honourable and Reverend Edward Lyttleton, who was Headmaster from 1905 - 1916. This is unlikely to be the Headmaster's own writing, as there are several spelling mistakes, which in those days would have been unheard of by any teacher. The poem's title is not mentioned, but its theme is "A Learned Man" and it consists of four verses. Rare. At time of listing, we could not find another internet example of this title. Weight 400g.
